Scientists at the Leeds Dental Institute (UK) have discovered a way to naturally heal cavities without traditional fillings.
With this new method, dentists will apply a special protein-containing solution to small cavities. This protein acts as a scaffold that attracts minerals to rebuild enamel, mimicking the natural process of tooth formation.
Additionally, experts have developed a mouthwash capable of eliminating cavity-causing bacteria through photodynamic therapy. When users shine a specific light into their mouths, bacteria absorb the special molecules in the mouthwash, which then destroy the bacteria from within upon interaction with the light.
According to The Telegraph, researchers expect this mouthwash to be available on the market within the next three years, while the new cavity-filling technique could be in use within five years.
